Responding to Bob Neimeyer's welcome discussion on PCP training
facilities I would like to mention what the PCP Centre London has been
doing since I started running courses in 1978, Currently, the PCP
Centre has a section called PCP Education which is run by Ray Evans.
This offers Foundation Courses 4 times a year. These are basically
open to all-comers and are interdisciplinary. At the end of these,
anyone may apply to go on to the Advanced Training programme. Some may
register for a Diploma in PCP in relation to counselling,
psychotherapy, research, education or whatever.
One important thing is that the Centre is recognised by the United
Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy. This means anyone who has the
Cente's Diploma in Psychotherapy is on its own Register and, thereby,
on the UKCP's Register. They are therefore entitled to call themselves
"a psychotherapist". People of any nationality can be on the PCP
Centre's Register provided they meet the necessary criteria and abide
by the Centre's code of ethics and so forth. The UKCP is at the stage
of allowing its organisations to include "grandparents" - that means
the PCP Centre can invite people who have been practicing PCP therapy
over the years to be on its Register. The other term is "blanketing" -
people who feel they are doing PCP therapy can apply to the PCP Centre
for accreditation.
Apart from the Foundation courses (covering 8 days of general PCP plus
its applications) and the Advanced training courses (covering a
further two and a half years), PCP Education puts on programmes of
workshops and arranges in-house courses to meet particular needs.
