There has been a bit of a spate of addresses on the list failing
(people going on holiday and not paying their bills? people leaving
student placements?) We've decided only to wait a week before
deleting apparently dead addresses rather than the fortnight we used
to. If it's an edu. or ac. address I ask the postmaster for the site
whether they know of the person but I don't do that for commercial
sites (just in case someone shouldn't really have been using work
Email for the list!) nor for ISPs
