To run the Mathbrowser you will need the following hardware and software:
When you download and install the Mathbrowser, the setup program will determine if you have these libraries already installed and notify you if you do not. If you do not have them, you may download them by FTP from Microsoft or from the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, makers of the Mosaic application. Note that if you already run Mathcad 5.0 or Mathcad PLUS 5.0 for Windows, you already have the Win32s libraries.
Currently the Mathbrowser has been tested with only the following TCP/IP stacks:
Protocol stacks are notoriously difficult to install and get working, as we've certainly found here at MathSoft, but the situation has improved dramatically as Microsoft has begun to see itself as a provider of Internet software. Unfortunately, Microsoft supports TCP/IP on everything but Windows 3.1, so the majority of PC users have to use third-party implementations that aren't always compatible with each other or Microsoft's standard.
If you use Windows for Workgroups or Windows NT 3.5, Mathbrowser should work with no problems, asssuming you use Microsoft's TCP/IP software.
If you have only Windows 3.1 and third-party TCP/IP software, make sure you have the latest release of all components and ensure that your Winsock DLL supports v. 1.1 of the Windows sockets standard. (Even then we can't guarantee everything will work flawlessly.) Unfortunately, as a powerful program, Mathbrowser is a very demanding user of Windows and will quickly reveal Win32s and TCP/IP problems.
Unfortunately, MathSoft cannot answer TCP/IP configuration questions or help you set up your Internet connection. However, as a user service, we'd like to maintain a list of Windows 3.1 configurations and third-party TCP/IP software that are known to work well with Mathbrowser. If you send us a message to support@mathsoft.com about the status of your setup (including appropriate version numbers whenever possible), we'll try to include it in our information here.
