Task Group Specialization Standards
Task Group Knowledge Competencies
- Identify organizational dynamics pertinent to task/work
groups.
- Describe community dynamics pertinent to task/work groups.
- Identify political dynamics pertinent to task/work groups.
- Describe standard discussion methodologies appropriate for
task/work groups.
- Identify specific ethical considerations in working with
task/work groups.
- Identify program development and evaluation models
appropriate for task/work groups.
- List consultation principles and approaches appropriate for
task/work groups.
Task Group Skill Competencies
- Focus and maintain attention on task and work issues.
- Obtain goal clarity in a task/work group.
- Conduct a personally selected task/work group model
appropriate to the age and clientele of the group leader's
specialty area(s) (e.g., school counseling).
- Mobilize energies toward a common goal in task/work groups.
- Implement group decision-making methods in task/work groups.
- Manage conflict in task/work groups.
- Blend the predominant task focus with appropriate attention
to human relations factors in task/work groups.
- Sense and use larger organizational and political dynamics in
task/work groups.
Task Group Coursework Requirements
- Minimum: 1 course in organizational management and
development.
- Recommended: Coursework should be taken in the broad area of
organizational development, management, and/or sociology such
that the student understands organizational life and how task
groups function within it. Coursework also should be taken in
methods of consultation.
Task Group Supervised Practice Requirements
- Minimum: 30 clock hours supervised practice.
- Recommended: 45 clock hours supervised practice.
Task Group Criterion Experience
- Conduct a task/work group appropriate to the age and
clientele of the group leader's specialty area(s) (e.g., school
counseling, student development counseling, community counseling,
mental health counseling).
