.A one size fits all bandaid approach to therapy.
.A cookbook approach to therapy.
.A therapy technique that you 'sometimes' use.
.Shallow and superficial.
.Only for use with clients who have a limited mental health insurance
benefit.
What it is:
A model which has evolved over
years of thought, research and experience.
A model which places the highest emphasis on respect for clients
and their competence, strengths and resources.
A model in which building a collaborative relationship with the
client is key.
A systems-based model of therapy.
A model of therapy that recognizes that change is inevitable and
ongoing.
A goal-directed model of therapy.
A model which focuses on working collaboratively *with* the client
to build solutions.
A model which challenges the assumption that learning all about
the etiology of the problem is the only way to find the solution
to that problem.
A model which holds that there is no one single 'correct' or 'valid'
way to live one's life; and because this is so, it is the client's
goals, not the therapist's that should be identified and accomplished.
