Society for Psychotherapy Research (U.K.)

Oh dear, this page is over ten years old. I think that makes it of archaeological interest on the www!

Meanwhile, back to the archeological dig ...

This is the U.K. chapter of the international organisation. The title is self-explanatory if you take "psychotherapy research" to include any counselling or therapy research.

We welcome anyone with an interest in psychotherapy research whether a practitioner or not. There has been a stronger basis of S.P.R. within the N.H.S. than private practice and a predominance of the clinical membership has probably had a psychodynamic/interpersonal theoretical inclination and have more often worked with individuals and adults than with groups, families or children and adolescents. These are all restrictions rather than deliberate inclinations and we are keen to have more analysts, behaviourists, private therapists, group and family workers etc. amongst our number.

SPR(UK) has reflected the International swing toward more qualitative methods over the last few years and, again, new members with predominantly qualitative methodological interests will be very welcome.

We hold a friendly annual conference (the 14th this year, 1997) at Ravenscar on the North Yorkshire coast where a number of psychotherapy research projects and careers have been launched. Most years we also hold a one day conference elsewhere in the UK in the autumn. We produce our own newsletter rather erratically (mounted on the WWW) and membership brings the Journal Psychotherapy Research with it.
