I have read your message with interest and decided to reply it because:
I have been working in the field of eating disorders for several years and
being born in an East-European country get involved in looking for reasons
why eating disorders have never been considered in that part of Europe as
being the females' disturbance of the last two decade. We developed a small
pilot research looking at social
stereotypes in West and East (ideal models, gender-role stereotypes and
their relationship with the self image in women) in order to appreciate if
there are any cultural differences that makes women in fromer socialist
society to
be better off at least from the perspective of eating disorders! It seems
to us that at least before 90 (political and economical changes!) women
in the East of Europe benefited from the existence of social model that
supported "a smooth" development of their genmder identity, whereas it
could be that in West (Germany), the gender stereotypes being more
poilarised, females were more under strain when chosing their paths in
developing identities.
Now I should like to concentrate on gender as risk factor for
developing psychopathology in women: final scope would be
integrating it into prevention.

see any connections between our interests?
