These last two posts here have been a bit grim and personal. Hm, I guess this is my personal web site and my personal blog so I shouldn’t worry about too much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The last three months have included a very small amount of time in South Wales overlapping there with my sisters and my father to celebrate his 98th birthday (and my 69th: I was a birthday present to him!) Obviously losing his wife of 72 years suddenly and facing health challenges of his own means that life hasn’t been a picnic these last six months. “I’m not doing any high kicks” as Mum used to quote a then old relative of Dad’s from my young childhood onwards: it was one of her mantras. Despite all that I think it’s fair to say that he’s doing well and my sister living near him has been a godsend. Fingers crossed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In my last post I said that in 2026 I was going to have to take greater care of my own health and follow up with investigations of the various surprises revealed in December. I haven’t done very well with that yet but there are pleas in mitigation! Partly those have been good: I’ve had two whole weeks up here in the Alps with the family getting their last skiing\/snowboarding out of “L129” the apartment we’ve used since 2004. The last from here as it really does look as if I will move out of here at the end of this month and into a lovely new place in May. I am still feeling very superstitious about that and won’t say more until it has, I hope, all happened. For now I am living pretty much in the bunk room in L129 as I pack things up for the move … and that’s one vital part of starting to move on!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Work ticks on at a slower pace than usual and has been undergoing a bit of reappraisal. I hope that will lead into moving that on in ways that are more satisfying for me in the second half of this year. Let’s see.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I should write about trying to find a moral position, in all my privileges, in a world that we as a species are so violating. Like many I know, I feel utterly disgusted by Trump, his cronies and MAGA base and seemingly completely amoral Republican party, by Benjamin Netanyahu and another disgusting government in Israel and, of course, all the other continuing horrors and amoral power brokers around us. I have clarified that I am vehemently against the current governments of the USA and Israel that that I can be that without being antisemitic. I am not much less disgusted by the government we have in the UK. I should write about these things in some detail but at this point I don’t have the clarity and “grace” not to descend into rage or despair so that will have to wait but it has to be part of all this “moving on”.
