# Authenticity Scale (AS)

A twelve item self-report therapy change scale created to reflect Carl Rogers' ideas of authenticity and its loss as central to distress/dyfunction and to recovery through therapy.

#### Details

The scale was first described in: Wood, A. M., Linley, P. A., Maltby, J., Baliousis, M., & Joseph, S. (2008). The authentic personality: A theoretical and empirical conceptualization and the development of the Authenticity Scale. Journal of Counseling Psychology, 55(3), 385–399. [https://doi.org/10.1037/0022-0167.55.3.385](https://doi.org/10.1037/0022-0167.55.3.385). It has been widely used though there are perhaps surprisingly few reports on its use in therapies. It has three four-item subscales: Authentic Living, Self-Alienation and Accepting External Influence.
