# Schwartz Outcome Scale-10 (SOS-10)

The SOS-10 is a brief self-report scale of 10 items that measures psychological health and well-being. The original publication rather nicely describes it:

> Our results suggest that the scale appears to mea-
> sure a broad domain of psychological health
>
> Absract, p. 359 in Blais, M. A., Lenderking, W. R., Baer, L., deLorrell, A., Peets, K., Leahy, L., & Burns, C. (1999). Development and initial validation of a brief mental health outcome measure. The time span is the last seven days and items are scored between 0 and 6 where 0 is anchored by "Never" and 6 by "All of the time or nearly all of the time". All items are positively cued and simple scoring is from 0 to 60. It can be used for assessment or for change measurement.

#### Details

There are at least three translations of the measure. The original paper gave logit difficulty scores for each item illustrating that they covered a substantial range of "difficulty". I believe the measure remains free to use for unfunded research and clinical services on application to the MAPI/ePROVIDE repository.

I have used it in a number of CORE studies as a convergent validity check measure, these include:
