# Seven point summaries

Well this is really small print but it's an absolute joy for an amateur statistics geek. These are all extensions of the five point summary (minimum, lower quartile, median, upper quartile and maximum to save you clicking through!)

#### Details

There are three seven point summaries!

- [Tukey's seven point summary](https://www.psyctc.org/psyctc/glossary2/tukeys-seven-number-summary/)
- [Bowley's seven point summary](https://www.psyctc.org/psyctc/glossary2/bowleys-seven-figure-summary/)
- ["the" seven point summary](https://www.psyctc.org/psyctc/glossary2/the-seven-number-summary/)

OK, I admit I made up that last name: it's just that it's the only one of the three that doesn't seem to have had an inventor and hence not to carry someone's name.

They are three genuinely interestingly different descriptors of distributions but this is very small print and I have never seen any of them used in reports or papers in our arenas.

One of my [shiny apps](https://shiny.psyctc.org): [ECDF plot with quantiles and CIs for quantiles](https://shiny.psyctc.org/apps/ECDFplot/) is pertinent in the unlikely event that you ever want to get any of these seven point splits of your data with their confidence intervals!
