- St George’s Hospital Medical School (University of London) Multi-Disciplinary Diploma in Forensic Mental Health took on 35 students this year for the one day a week release course. The course is designed primarily for those working with mentally-disordered offenders and provides a multi-disciplinary educational package for those professionals. - The UCL Diploma in Forensic Psychotherapeutic Studies taught at the Portman Clinic continues to flourish. This year sees the start of a new teaching programme. For information please contact Guy Danvers on 0171 794 8262
- The Royal College of Psychiatrists Faculty of Forensic Psychiatry Annual Residential Meeting will take place in Cardiff from 10-12 February 2000
Professional Developments
The number of forensic psychotherapy appointments has increased in the past year:
- Chris Evans has been appointed Forensic Psychotherapist at Rampton Special Hospital
- Siobhan Murphy has been appointed at the Maudsley and Denis Hill Regional Secure Unit.
- Cleo Van Velsen has been appointed Consultant Forensic Psychotherapist at the John Howard Centre in East London.
- The first two Specialist Registrar jobs in Forensic Psychotherapy (higher training in psychiatry in the UK) have been advertised for the Portman Clinic and Ealing, Hammersmith and Fulham NHS Trust. One of the first appointees is Dr Alla Rubitel, who has been doing forensic psychotherapy research on attachment at Broadmoor Hospital and St George’s Hospital Medical School.
Personal Developments
- Gill McGauley, Secretary of the IAFP, who was due to deliver a paper on attachment at the Sheffield conference missed the annual event because her second child, Jessica, was delivered on 20 April 1999. Many congratulations!
