CONTENTS

Welcome to the second edition of the ECED newsletter, since our first newsletter last September we have had a further 45 members join the ECED and we now have over 400 representatives from every European country apart from Albania and some of the newly created former Yugoslavian and Soviet States. If you know of anyone working in those countries please introduce them to the ECED as we hope to spread the network throughout Europe.

The ECED continues to have a policy of not releasing our list of members for any advertising purposes such as to conferences organisers and publishers. However, we are happy to provide information to members on forthcoming meetings and publications via this newsletter. So if you are involved in any relevant venture please contact ECED in London with the information. We hope to put out the newsletter twice yearly so please send us any information on publications, meetings, research, or just general news We need lots of input from all over Europe to keep the newsletter alive and interesting.

EATING DISORDERS REVIEW

Eating Disorders Review is a new journal published in 1993 by J. Wiley & Sons publishers and the Eating Disorders Association (EDA) who are the British National self-help organisation. Wiley also publish the American based International Journal of Eating Disorders and it is intended that the Eating Disorders Review will particularly develop a European focus. The current price for individual subscribers is £40.00 in UK, $65.00 outside UK; Institutions £50.00 in UK, $85.00 outside UK. However Wiley will offer it for £20.00 (regardless of country of residence) if you are a member of the EDA. As membership of the EDA costs £15.00 in UK and £25.00 outside UK you could take advantage of the weak British pound and save money by joining the EDA. If you join the EDA you can save up to £11 outside UK compared to an institutional subscription to the journal (depending upon exchange rates). Membership of the EDA provides you with their information pack, including leaflets on eating disorders, a booklist, and a newsletter every two months. The EDA information will be of general interest to all ECED members and particularly useful for anyone involved in self-help or community groups in their own country.

FREE BACK COPIES OF JOURNALS

The EDA have very kindly offered the ECED free surplus back copies of the British Review of Anorexia and Bulimia (the journal superceded by the Eating Disorders Review) for distribution to any of our members in Central and Eastern Europe who have difficulty in obtaining access to, or funding for, eating disorders journals. If you would like to take advantage of these free copies please drop a note to Bridget Dolan in London and she will arrange for copies to be sent on to you.

EATING DISORDERS PREVENTION
In several European countries, all kinds of projects, experiments or investigations aimed at early detection or prevention of eating disorders have been planned or carried out. In order to improve the quality and efficacy of such projects, it is time to review the state-of-the-art in this area and to stimulate collaboration and exchange of ideas. Within the European Conference on Psychosomatic Research (see meetings section) a satellite meeting is planned on prevention of eating disorders. If you are interested in active participation, please write to:
Prof. W. Vandereycken, Leuvenseslaan 85, B-3300 Tienen, Belgium. Fax +32 16 821 308.
