Far be it from me to suggest that your role of father is in any way
inauthentic or a sham! I guess I'm also a little uncomfortable with
the notion that all roles, all identities are exercizes in bad faith.
On the other hand, the extent to which my construing is filtered through
an identity or role (e.g., father) is obviously related to the extent to
which I would be *free* for alternatives. I am not arguing for
fragmentation or a coherent sense of construing. However, I am suggesting
that identity and roles, in the sense that they are typically construed,
may be ventures into viewing one's personhood as an object (and not a
process).
