Day 17. Thursday 25.viii.16. Carcans to Biganos

Oh dear, I didn't post anything and took few images. That first little detour on the map was to stock up with food and, above all, fluid, for the day and I think I stopped for lunch somewhere with a simple beach restaurant but I can't swear to that or that it was this day. The header image gives a good impression of the day: surprisingly tiring rolling up and down a little but enough, with sometimes scarily narrow and sand covered track, to be quite tiring.

The relatively think tyres on proto-Toto didn't cope well with that sand and I was cycling very gingerly through bits like that to make sure I stayed on the concrete and stayed upright. Passing others coming the other way was hairy at times and I came to see that those with fat tyres were much safer than I was.

Curiously, I have a fairly clear recognition memory of stopping in this clearing. I don't think it was a full meal stop, just a bit of leaning proto-Toto up against something, a stand of fire brooms possibly (long wooden poles with a flat rubber or plastic end for beating out fire).

I think I camped in Biganos Bourg and was amused to overlap with, and overhear, some young Brits who had been working in the campsite for the summer and some who were just visiting. I think it made me aware that I was getting used to hearing mostly French.
