I can see from the date stamps on my images that I took a while to get moving, I suspect I had a lovely breakfast in the hotel and then I wandered around lovely Montreuil for half an hour. It’s actually Montreuil-sur-mer, not the the much larger Montreuil near Paris. Montreuil-sur-mer in wikipedia in English, and in French, the French one has many, sometimes odd and tiny, images including two lovely black and white timbered hotels, one of which, I am pretty sure, was where I stayed … I just don’t know which!!
I loved this building which, as you can see, claims to date from 1645. In case you are just jumping into this on day 4, the gallery should be clickable.
Now I was really moving into a theme of my agnostic’s pilgrimage to Compostella, my camino, my pélerinage: admiring churches and cathedrals along the way and Montreuil had both a church and an église abbatiale (I assume church of a monastery) right next to each other. Here’s a gallery of both but I confess I don’t now know which interior images are from which church.
I was struck by the battering of the images, probably from the wars of religion, and the contrast with the grand “treasures” including that leg with it’s bit of bone from a saint or martyr. There are times when Catholicism loses me, the roof and the sculpted pillars are my joys. I did also wander around a bit more I think but then it was time to head off (see header image of the page!) I wanted to get to Amiens: the first of my great cathedrals.
This was one of the flattest days of the whole tour I think. First flat farmland with many wind turbines.

And then, after Abbeville, a wonderful riverside cycle track peppered with lovely views and things to see, most of which I had to ignore if I was to get to Amiens but here you do have a propeller and a bomb from a Lancaster bomber (ND 689 KMO apparently) buried in May 1944 and disinterred 12.ix.1998 as the sign says. The red brick building is a hydroelectric power station from the end of the 19th Century. That they existed then was a new idea to me.
I made into a campsite on the edge of Amiens about 18.30 …

And for those who may be amused by this, here is the construction of the tent and airing clothes in the early evening sun!
And finally, another of my selfies and the sun setting.

It had been a very good day in many ways!
