Employee assistance programmes (EAPs)

These are programmes offering some degree of support with mental health and well-being issues for employees of a company where the interventions, generally but not always, psychological therapies are paid for by the company but the discussions in the interventions are confidential and not reported back to the company. Sometimes the EAP practitioners may provide general consultation to the company on MH/WB issues and sometimes they may provide per client consultation between the client and pertinent managers and/or HR/personnel staff of the company. The range of, and durations of, interventions offered within the programmes probably vary greatly across companies. Sometimes EAP practitioners and services are offered to companies but EAP organisations.

Details #

EAPs vary hugely, they are said to have started in the USA in the 1940s and have developed differently in the USA and in other countries since then.
