I confess this is me throwing one in for completeness, I don’t think I’ve ever seen it used in any report or paper I’ve ever read.

The quantiles that divide a distribution into eight equal sized value ranges so in percentile terminology:
- 0% to <12.5%
- 12.5% to <25%
- 25% to <37.5%
- 37.5% to <50%
- 50% to <67.5%
- 67.5% to <75%
- 75% to 100%
[Slightly dodgy use of the “<” to purists but I think what I mean is clear!]
